The Candlelight House has been a project of mine for the last five years. I wrote the first three chapters early on, but it sat untouched until this year when I finally completed it. I always knew exactly how I wanted it to end, with detailed notes for each chapter and the characters’ personalities already mapped out. One day, this story stood out while browsing through my unfinished projects, both on my computer and in my old notebooks. I knew it was time to bring it to life.

This has easily been one of my favorite books to write. I wanted to ensure every scene felt vivid and immersive, focusing heavily on imagery to set this book apart. While I always strive to make my writing visually rich, The Candlelight House required me to push those efforts even further. The story began with an idea: hidden doors, a library with a secret shelf that moves. As I built the world, I thought, why not make the doors unique in how they open? And why not place something magical—and sinister—behind each one?

I wrote this book with my youngest child in mind. Her imagination is incredible. When we play, toys scattered everywhere, she doesn’t just create simple storylines—she comes up with ideas that are wildly inventive. It reminds me of my own childhood, playing outside in the woods, and making up elaborate adventures. She has that same spark, even if she insists, “I don’t have an imagination.” She clearly does.

The Candlelight House is meant to awaken that spark in everyone who reads it. As you turn the pages, I hope you’re drawn into Soren’s world, seeing through his eyes. I want the imagery to be so vivid that it feels like a movie playing in your mind.
